RE: Nigerian prostitutes reveal their hell in Europe after being tricked into joining the sex trade

Hi Guys…. its been awhile since my last blog post… i know right… i haven’t been consistent lately. Well with the new job and everything i got going on for me at the moment its kinda hard to sit down and write out what i got going on in my head. This morning though i decided to take few minutes to write about an article i read online and my thoughts towards the article.

Ok, so i saw a post on facebook which eventually lead me to Linda Ikejis Blog about “Nigerian prostitutes reveal their hell in Europe after being tricked into joining the sex trade

Here’s the post below:

Nigerian women are being trafficked to Italy under the pretence that they will be working as nannies or in factories – but often end up working the streets as prostitutes.
Their plight has been highlighted by Paris-based photographer Elena Perlino, originally from Italy, who began to notice the presence of young African women working on the streets during her commutes from Turin.
She said: ‘I decided to start from this surreal vision to tell a story. I have been working on the topic for several years, focusing mainly on the Italian connection.’ Continue…

Perlino reveals that many Nigerian women come to Italy hoping to make enough money from honest work as nannies or factory workers to support their families back home, but are tricked by traffickers into working in the sex trade.

The photographer explained: ‘My work attempts to show a complex phenomenon that crosses Italy from North to South.
‘This involves many cities including Turin, Milan, Genoa, Rome, Naples and Palermo and thousands of Nigerian and Italian people.’
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime declared Nigeria among the top eight countries with the highest human trafficking rates in the world.

Ok…  So for a long time now we’ve heard these sad stories about how many women are decieved into sex trade with a promise of better life in Italy and all that sobby stories bla bla bla… Yes most Nigerian women are victims of this crime, but ALOT of them are not victims at all but people who knownly plan and hope to find themselves in such situation, anything that can get them out of the country. (I know that alot of people are going to start getting angry and probably attack me here with that i just said, but guys… calm down.. listen to where im going with this.)
I spent about 2 years of my life in Benin City, Edo state and during this time i met different kinds of people… and i was shocked by the “Ambitions” of some girls i happen to meet either at a restaurant or friend of a friend or just some random gist amongst many and then someone says ish like “I just want to find whatever i can do to take me to Italy.. i dont care how i get there oh”… that was many years ago… i totally forgot about that. Few months ago, my wifes sister hired a new maid (shes from benin city), the day she resumed was the day i had my daughters naming ceremony so my wifes sister was at our place, meaning the girl had to resume at my house and be part of the party before heading over to her “Madams” place. This girl became friends with my maid so fast and they where always gisting every opportunity they got..   she was so lousy, within 10mins of arrival she had broken 4 of my tumblers and a plate.. i just told her to sit somewhere and watch African Magic with the other women. To cut the long story short.. after the event my sister-in-law left with her kid and new maid. I heard two days later that the maid packed her things and left becuase my sister-in-law “Wasnt RICH” and didnt have a car… she couldnt see herself trecking.. she wanted to come start with us instead. Trust my wife the iron lady.. lol (Sorry honey).. she didnt even want to hear of that.. anyway the girl left and my wife started drilling our own maid to know what they where both talking about during the ceremony event. My maid told us the girl wanted to know about how many men lived in the compound, how many where married how many where single, how much she was being paid… if i have rich friends come over all the time and so many other weird stuffs. she kept bragging to my maid that she just want to be a maid for a while till she can meet someone that will make a dream come true.. and what was this dream????  she wanted to go to Itally like her other aunts and make it BIG.. and someday become a madam tooo then she can come to Nigeria to get more girls and make money.
Well im not going to say much more about this… but i think we all feel sorry for these so called Victims and not realize that a lot of them are not really victims… something needs to be done about changing the orientation of young girls who grow up “wanting to be like her runs aunt” thinking that’s the life.
This is just my opinion.
